Animal Control & Shelter

Animals at the Shelter

Animals brought into the shelter are kept on a state-required stray hold for 72 hours allowing time for the owner to claim them before they are available for adoption.

Please call the shelter at 316-322-8844 for an appointment for adoption (see fees below), city license, pit bull registration or to claim an animal.

For all dogs in our care, unless noted below, we have no information regarding if they are good with cats or children.

Animal Control Officer

The ACO is responsible for the care of animals and the safety of the public, including enforcing laws, educating the public, responding to calls and investigating incidents. The ACO works closely with the Animal Shelter, local vet clinics, and Municipal Court.

If you have questions or would like to report an ongoing animal complaint, the Animal Control Officer can be reached at hrose@eldoks.gov, or (316) 322-8844.
