Flood Plain

El Dorado is a vibrant community enriched by natural waterways, including the West Branch of the Walnut River, the Walnut River, Constant Creek, and numerous unnamed tributaries and drainage channels. While these features enhance our landscape, they also present flood risks, especially during heavy rainfall that can lead to localized runoff and ponding. To safeguard our residents and properties, the City of El Dorado enforces floodplain development standards and participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This involvement provides access to flood insurance, disaster assistance, and hazard mitigation opportunities. Here’s what you need to know about flood zones, flood insurance, and our community’s floodplain management efforts.
