Industrial Site Certification Project

As part of the Building Stronger Economy (B.A.S.E.) Grant, the City of El Dorado is working to complete industrial site certification to the north and west of the city. The site certification includes clearing the sites of any trees to prepare the land for future development.

A Kansas Certified Site designation is issued to properties that have successfully completed a set of program requirements to demonstrate that the property is primed for development and ready for investment. The program seeks to reduce the risk associated with development by providing detailed information including: price and availability, utilities, access, environmental concerns and potential site development costs.

Start Date: March 2024

Cost: $225,000 - this is funded through the B.A.S.E. grant.

Early 2022 – City staff met to discuss ideas for a grant application for the B.A.S.E. grant program administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce.

February 2022 – Staff reviewed the City’s proposal.

October 2022 – The City applied for the grant for water infrastructure improvements and industrial development.

April 13, 2022 – El Dorado was announced as a first-round recipient for a $3 million B.A.S.E. grant.

March 2024 - The City submitted its industrial properties and the CIC industrial properties to the Kansas Department of Commerce’s site certification program for review. KDOC will likely take several weeks to review before deciding whether to certify the sites or require additional information.
